Winterreise D 911 is probably Franz Schubert's best-known work and the most frequently performed song cycle for voice and piano in the world. It was composed in the year 1827, only one year before Schubert's death. As in Schubert's first song cycle Die schöne Müllerin (1823), the text is based on poems by the Dessau poet Wilhelm Müller (1794-1827).
